Armenia-USA. Historical Background

Ararat Mirzoyan is the first Speaker of the National Assembly of the Independent Armenia, who visited the USA.

Before him it was Levon Ter-Petrosyan-the President of the Supreme Council of Armenian, who visited the USA, but at that time the United States hadn’t recognized Armenian Independence. At the same time, Ararat Mirzoyan is the first high-ranking official  who since 2012 met with his direct counterpart- Senate’s majority leader (the president of the Senate is by his position the vice-president of the USA therefore the majority leader is the first person by importance in the Senate) and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
